Imported Italian Christmas Foods

Christmas (Natale in Italian) is celebrated in Italy from December 8th (the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception) to January 6th (the Epiphany).  Their festivities tend to be less commercialized and closer to the religious roots of the season, but have started to adopt some of the American traditions including trees, decorations, and Santa Claus (Babbo Natale).  The new traditions have been incorporated nicely into their celebrations still keeping the focus on the season and family.

Did you know...instead of writing letters to Santa, Italian children write letters to their parents, which are read during the meal, telling them how much they love them.
