Gianduja (also known as gianduia) was created in the early 1800's by a chocolatier in Turin. Under British blockade, he found a way to extended the life of the little bit of chocolate he had remaining by adding hazelnut paste. Gianduja, a sweet chocolate spread can be found in milk, dark and sometimes white chocolate variations and is typically about 30% hazelnut paste.
